DMX House Raid Turns Up Drugs & Dead Dogs (Update)
- [08/27/07] - Last Friday morning, August 25, Maricopa County Sheriff deputies searched DMX's house and seized 12 distraught pit bulls and weapons. DMX, aka Earl Simmon, wasn't present when the raid took place. Further details have emerged as authorities who raided the rapper's Arizona home last week also found three dog carcasses and illegal narcotics.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio told The Arizona Republic that the illegal narcotics were found inside a locked master bedroom and preliminary tests indicate that it's either cocaine or methamphetamine. The three dog carcasses were unearthed from the backyard; two were in bags and another appeared to have been burned.
DMX's attorney, Murray Richman, claims he had no knowledge of any narcotics at his client's home and divulged that the dogs were looked after by a caretaker and various people who had been staying at the home.
"Why doesn't the sheriff call me?" Richman said. "I spoke to him yesterday - and rather than make these allegations in the press, why doesn't he call me?"
Richman claims that DMX has not been at the house for two months but Arpaio says neighbors placed the rapper at the home in the past two weeks.
DMX has not been charged or arrested. Arapo claims investigation of the dogs and guns are ongoing and X could be facing misdemeanor charges for animal cruelty.
"No one is going to get any passes regardless of occupation," said Arpaio.
This marks the second time DMX has been linked to cruelty to animals. In 2002, X pleaded guilty to animal cruelty in New Jersey for reportedly neglecting 13 pit bulls.
UPDATE [09/24/07] - Police have revealed that there has is no evidence of organized dog fighting against rapper DMX and that so far, tests conducted by police in Arizona have come back inconclusive.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio revealed that police examined the carcasses of three buried dogs found on the rapper's property during an August 24 raid of his Cave Creek, Arizona home.
Police found 13 malnourished dogs living in the rapper's home after neighbors complained about the animals treatment.
In addition to being locked in their cages for 23-hours a day, police said the animals were severely malnourished, lacking adequate food, water and shade, in temperatures of over 110 degrees.
DMX has been traveling internationally since the raid and has denied any wrong doing, claiming he hired a caretaker to watch after the dogs while he was on tour.
No charges have been filed against DMX, but police continue their investigation. source: New York Post
