[01/24/08] - Lil’ Wayne has been formally charged with felony drug and weapons violations in the wake of his arrest near Dateland, Arizona on Tuesday. A search of his tour bus turned up guns and weapons, including a .40-caliber pistol legally registered to Wayne in Florida, where he has a concealed-weapons permit, 41 grams of ecstasy, nearly 4 ounces of marijuana, more than an ounce of cocaine, drug paraphernalia and $22,000 in cash.
The 25-year-old rap star, born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., was released from a Yuma County jail Wednesday after posting $10,185 in bail. Two other men were arrested with Wayne, one of whom was charged today with possession of marijuana. However, Wayne has been allowed to leave the state and should make his sold-out concert tonight at Richmond, Va.'s Landmark Theater.
According to reports, the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) took part in the arrest. LIl Wayne’s tour bus was going through a US Border Patrol checkpoint when he was stopped and the narcotics were seized from the bus. A preliminary hearing in the case will be held on February 12. Wayne has had drug-related run-ins with the law before.
Carter was charged with a felony drug possession in Idaho last year.
